Franz Theodor Grosse (1829-1891): Nude Ephebe

Karl & Faber Kunstauktionen, Munich, DE recently listed a beautiful study of a nude ephebe by 19th century German artist Franz Theodor Grosse (1829-1891). Theodor Grosse was a German historical and portrait painter and sculptor. He studied at the Dresden Academy under Eduard Bendemann (1811-1889). Because of his fine work he was awarded a traveling scholarship and spent several years in Italy. After he returned to Germany, he decorated the eastern loggia of the Leipzig Museum. In 1867 he became an instructor at the Dresden Academy.
